About the LA's Promise 2014 Gala

LA's Promise is an organization committed to transforming underserved communities by preparing every child in the neighborhood to become high school graduates who are college and career ready. Each year LA's Promise holds a fundraising event in which we honor those education leaders making a difference in our school communities. Our 2014 honorees will be Jeff Shell Chairman of Universal Filmed Entertainment and Director, Screenwriter and Producer Robert Rodriguez.

LA's Promise has benefited greatly from the financial support of the Los Angeles business community as well as contributions from prominent Hollywood figures, whom often serve as honorees and/or entertainment for each event. In 2005, "Stand Up for Mentoring" featured performances from comedic heavyweights Larry David, Ellen DeGeneres, Kevin James, Chris Rock, and Ray Romano. The 2007 Gala honored Tom Cruise and was hosted by Jay Leno, with Kanye West performing. Jack Black emceed and performed at our 2009 event. The 2012 Gala "A Night of Magic" was a David Copperfield produced spectacle full of mystery and wonder that included guest appearances from Modern Family's Julie Bowen and Oscar nominated actor Jeremy Renner. Our 2013 gala featured impassioned speeches from former United States Secretary of Labor Robert Reich and Los Angeles Unified School District Superintendent John Deasy as well as a stirring performance from Taboo of The Black Eyed Peas with Manual Arts' students.
