Los Angeles Clippers Hold week-long fit campus series

The Los Angeles Clippers and The California Endowment have partnered to deliver the Clippers FIT Campus Program. Six schools (see attached sheet for all school locations) have been selected to participate in the inaugural launch of Clippers FIT Campus. This initiative will work with selected schools to enhance the quality of life of students reinforcing the importance of a healthy lifestyle through exercise and nutrition.

Each event will begin with a rally featuring the FIT message promoting healthy nutrition, exercise and education. The Rally will include Clippers in–arena game host Mike Rylander as our MC, Clippers DJ Dense spinning music for the students, and performances by the Clippers Spirit, Fast Break Crew and Fan Patrol. Following the Rally, 200 students will take place in the FIT Clinic which will have four fitness stations: Dance, Basketball, FITNESSGRAM Prep and Exercise Games. Clippers Alumni Player Sean Rooks will run the basketball station, Clippers head trainer Jasen Powell will run the FITNESSGRAM Prep station, Clippers Spirit will run the dance station and the Fan Patrol will run the Exercise Games station.

Clippers FIT is part of the NBA's health and wellness platform promoting healthy, active lifestyles for children and families. Children and teens need physical activity to maintain a healthy lifestyle. A moderate amount of physical activity such as running, jogging and playing sports, added into a child's daily routine can have significant health benefits. The goal of the program is to get children moving, teach them about healthy nutrition and reinforce the importance of education and staying in school.

The California Endowment, a private, statewide health foundation, was established in 1996 to expand access to affordable, quality health care for underserved individuals and communities, and to promote fundamental improvements in the health status of all Californians. The Endowment challenges the conventional wisdom that medical settings and individual choices are solely responsible for people's health. The Endowment believes that health happens in neighborhoods, schools, and with prevention. For more information, visit The Endowment's Web site at www.calendow.org.

LA's Promise, a nonprofit organization, is working to radically shift the education, health and social outcomes for thousands of youth in one South Los Angeles community. This will accomplish a "neighborhood turnaround" in an area we call LA's Promise Neighborhood. LA's Promise Neighborhood is an enrollment zone that includes two large South LA high schools, Manual Arts and West Adams Prep, and one middle school, John Muir, operated by LA's Promise on a first–of–its–kind performance contract with LAUSD. Within this zone, LA's Promise transforms chronically failing public schools, opens new schools and remakes schools into community hubs that offer comprehensive support services for students and families. LA's Promise will prepare every child in LA's Promise Neighborhood to be college–ready, healthy and successful in life. For more information on LA's Promise, please go to www.laspromise.org.
