<< Back to Team

Maribel is the Associate Director of College Access for LA’s Promise at Manual Arts High School. Maribel works directly with the school’s college counselor, to promote a college-going culture, and ensure that more South LA students are motivated and prepared to attend college.

Maribel joined LA’s Promise in November of 2015. Before LA's Promise, Maribel served as the Site Coordinator for the UCLA Early Academic Outreach Program. She has worked extensively with first generation/low-income students throughout LAUSD high schools promoting college and career readiness. She also serves as an admission reader for UCLA.

Maribel attended the University of California, Berkeley where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Social Welfare. At UC Berkeley, she worked with student-initiated organizations, including Bridges Multicultural Resource Center, an organization dedicated to recruit underrepresented students into institutions of higher education, and provide resources to retain these students at the University. Maribel later attended Cal State Long Beach, where she obtained a Masters degree, with an emphasis on the Social and Cultural Analysis of Education.

Maribel has a passion for education and for increasing access to higher education for students in underserved communities. She remains motivated by her parents’ words: “La educacion es algo que nadie te puede quitar” (Education is something nobody can ever take away from you.)

During her free time, Maribel enjoys listening to live music, dancing, road trips, and spending time with family and friends.
