Mrs. Erica Thomas-Minor has worked in the Los Angeles Unified School District for 14 years. In her career span with the District, she has served in a myriad of positions in high schools including Chemistry/Biology teacher, College and Career advisor, AVID coordinator, Advanced Placement coordinator, Gifted and Talented coordinator, and Schools for Advanced Studies coordinator.
Mrs. Thomas-Minor has served on the Manual Arts Leadership team since 2011. During this period, MAHS has transformed in many ways to a highly effective school of learning and engagement. Under her leadership programs implemented in AVID, Advanced Placement, the science department, and the Magnet school, have led to significant academic student growth, which can be seen in the schools’ increased Academic Performance Index (API). In addition, under her direct leadership and guidance the four-year college acceptance rate at MAHS has risen from below 15% to 40% over the last four years.
At the focal point of her leadership philosophy is the consistent aspiration to support teacher growth individually and collectively in their development, as “instruction is the primary factor” that impacts student academic achievement.
Mrs. Thomas-Minor received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from California State University, Long Beach, her Master of Arts Degree and Administrative credential from the University of Phoenix, and is currently in her third and final year of Doctoral studies in the school of Educational Leadership at California State University, Long Beach.
