Lori joined LA’s Promise as the Chief Academic Officer (CAO) in July of 2013. An instructional leader with a proven track record for creating a nationally recognized, high-performing school in the heart of Los Angeles. Pawinski is accelerating LA’s Promise aggressive efforts to improve the educational outcomes for thousands of youth attending John Muir Middle School, Manual Arts High School and West Adams Preparatory High School.
She comes to LA’s Promise with many years of experience, most recently as the Principal of the Ánimo Jackie Robinson Charter High School, part of Green Dot Public School’s network of high-performing charter schools. There her leadership developed a strong team, a shared focus on effective instructional strategies and promoted student-centered learning. As a result, Ánimo Jackie Robinson’s API score grew by 200 points and it has been named a Title I Academic Achievement Award School by the California Department of Education for its demonstrated success in closing the achievement gap. The campus also has been recognized as one of America’s Best by both Newsweek and U.S. News & World Report.
Lori is an adjunct professor at Loyola Marymount University, where she focuses on a number of topics related to essential elements of high performing schools. Additionally, she has served on several Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) accreditation teams since 2006 and has been a member of the Interscholastic Athletic Commission since 2008.
Lori received her undergraduate in history and a minor in physics, Master’s and Doctorate in Education from Loyola Marymount University.
Lori enjoys reading the latest in education research, and her hobbies including taking her children to water parks.
